Years ago, I had the Teenage Engineering OP-Z. It was one of my first pieces of musical hardware that I bought in this latest era of my hobby. It opened the door to all sorts of other hardware sequencers and samplers. It was also an incredibly frustrating piece of gear that I had a vocal love/hate relationship with. I eventually sold it and never looked back.
But, last year, the OP-XY was released. I splurged and bought one. It’s not cheap. It is, however, everything I wanted the OP-Z to be. The sampling is great (multisampling is a revelation even with its limitations), and the synths sound fantastic. And like the OP-Z, the size and portability allow for making music nearly anywhere.
Today’s jam features samples of my Drumbrute Impact for the drum part (with lots of bitcrushing and distortion). The bass was made with the Swarm engine. Melody and strings come from multisamples that I made using sounds in Reason. I had fun.
