Sometimes even a battery-powered piece of dedicated hardware isn’t available or convenient. Then it’s time to move to the iPad. I do not love making music this way. Touch screens seemed like magic years ago. But, they are still missing something. It’s not the same as knobs, keys, and buttons. But, I’ve adapted how I make music on an iPad to make it work for me. I’m a bit less focused on sequencing and more on setting patterns in motion and bringing them in and out using faders and effects sends. I will say that about iPads…the bang for your buck on plugins is pretty fantastic.
On this track, I have an ambient piece going on Fluss. The original sound comes from an OP-XY recording that Fluss is granularizing (?). For drums, I’m using Ruismaker Noir, occasionally tweaking the play order randomization to get some fills. And finally on bass, I am using the Moog Mariana plugin. Various effects on everything. I think this one is pretty peaceful, even with the drums going.
