I have this thing that I want to do someday when I can make the time. It’s a variation on the ambient stuff I already make, but with a more live feel. Drums and bass holding down a groove. Ambient sounds on the top. Call it “groovebient”. I even have a band name already to go: Normie AF. This track touches a bit on that fantasy.
I first added semi-live drumming. Played my Alesis Strike Multipad, with the MIDI triggering Addictive Drums in Reason. I picked an 8-bar loop that I liked and stuck with that throughout the track. I added some variety by automating the effects send on a 5-bar loop to the Delay.
Next I added some bass using Frikton and the Bassline Generator. Threw on some compression to bring out those reverb tails.
Finally, I added two tracks of the OP-1F running through the Chase Bliss MOOD mk2 into some compression on the Chroma Console.
Someday I’ll get good at recording my actual drum kit and record real bass lines. Until then, I’m happy with this.
