Notes from the Session
I did a little jamming a couple weeks ago using my 8-string touch-style guitar (Austin Douglas Guitars, ADG…a more affordable guitar from the maker of Warr Guitars back in the day). Sadly, I keep snapping the highest string, so I was only playing it as a 7-string.
I ran the ADG directly into the Chase Bliss Habit and recorded into Reason. The key was G major, though I tried to avoid hitting the major 3rd to keep it a bit more ambiguous.
On the Habit, I started with a longer delay, a medium Spread and minimal Scan. The Scan starts to grate on my ears after a few cycles (the Habit has a 3-minute delay buffer, which can also function as a fixed looper). I also had it switched on Collect and had Feed turned on. If the preceding few sentences sound like nonsense, you can check out the manual here. The idea was to record over myself over time and get more and more washed out and ambient. This can also result in some clipping over time as the volume continues to increase. During the session I put on the filter and manually swept through it. Then switched over to reverse octave down delay.
I was hoping to collect some sounds for samples and ambient beds, but when listening through the recordings, it just didn’t sound awesome to me. Oh well, it can’t always be great (or even adequate). Here’s a clip from the session.
